Felted Visions

As part of the Freedom Story Art Experience at the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center, I created a felt portrait of civil rights activist Clara Luper. This event, which honors Luper’s legacy and the 1958 Oklahoma sit-ins, inspired me to design a piece that captures her enduring impact on the fight for justice and equality.

The portrait is rendered in black and white, a choice that emphasizes the gravity and timelessness of Luper’s contributions. I spent over 20 hours bringing this piece to life, beginning with digital design work where I explored various color schemes and textual elements before deciding on a monochromatic approach. The result is a tribute to Luper’s role as a voice for justice and a stand for truth, reflecting the courage and determination that defined her life's work.
